Custom O-Rings from the Manufacturer

30.06.2023

Custom O-rings are a solution for meeting the urgent need for a seal of an unusual size. As we already know, they serve as seals in many areas of our daily lives. In one of our guides, we described the O-ring catalog, which includes the types of materials used for O-ring production, such as:

  • NBR O-rings (nitrile)

  • FKM O-rings (Viton®)

  • EPDM O-rings

  • VMQ silicone O-rings

  • Other advanced technological mixtures (including FFKM/FFPM O-rings made from perfluoroelastomer, PTFE, in FEP PFA sheathing)

The reader also had the opportunity to verify technical seals with a circular cross-section available in the Power Rubber store.

Rubber Sealing Rings - O-Rings

O-rings are sealing rings in the shape of a torus, placed in grooves. They are among the most common seals used in machinery construction. They are used to prevent medium leaks and the entry of dirt and contaminants into the system. This type of seal is characterized by its elasticity – it returns to its original shape after compression.

They are made from different materials depending on the working environment. Depending on the material, O-rings can offer excellent chemical resistance, a wide temperature range, good resistance to deformation, low friction coefficient, low gas permeability, long service life even in the most demanding environments, wear resistance, and good mechanical properties. Some come into contact with brake fluids, lubricants, diluted acids, high temperatures, or ozone.

Sealing rings are used in various industries (e.g., automotive). They are used for both dynamic and static applications.

Where to find Custom O-Rings?

What if we can't find the size of O-rings we need? In that case, contact POWER Rubber by phone (+48 505 16 03 03), email (power@powerrubber.com), or through the contact form, where we will provide the dimensions we need.

What to specify in such an email to receive a faster quote?

It's best to include:

  • Internal diameter: e.g. 200mm, 600mm, 3000mm, 6750mm

  • Thickness of the O-ring: e.g. 1.78mm, 2.62mm, 3.53mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 12mm, 15mm

  • Temperature range of the sealing: 200°C

  • Number of pieces needed: e.g. 10 pieces

  • Material hardness: e.g. 70ShA (if you don't know, describe the case, the more details we have, the better we can advise you)

  • Material to be used: if you are unsure, describe the conditions in which the seal should work, such as the medium: steam, acids, hydraulic fluids, lubricants, ozone, oils, etc.

  • Color – yes, color! We often get requests for custom O-rings in a specific color.

  • Pressure: if applicable, e.g. 10,000 PSI

  • Units: Please check the units – whether the internal diameter is in mm, and if it is in a different unit, please indicate it. 100 mm and 100 cm are significant differences in production and material consumption.

O-Ring Production – Custom Sizes

What if you don't know the exact dimensions and other information? Then feel free to share:

  • A technical drawing of the seal or the place where it is to be applied.

  • Photos with approximate dimensions marked.

  • Send us the sample for pricing.

  • If possible, bring the part to us or send it to our services. It is often cheaper to come to our office than to send a tank with an 8-meter diameter by truck!
