FKM blue plates with FDA approval

Blue FKM sheets are dedicated to the food industry. Thanks to their color they are visible, which makes it easier to identify contaminants that have gotten into food during the production process – this would be noticed immediately. Sheets based on fluorine rubber are used as technical seals.

FKM is also denoted by the symbol FPM and belongs to the group of fluoroelastomers, i.e. fluorine elastomers with high resistance to temperature, oils, fuels and many chemicals. Depending on the manufacturer and technical documentation, you can therefore encounter terms such as FKM, FPM, fluorine rubber or Viton® referring to the same type of material or its trade names.

FKM Rubber - Properties

Fluorine rubber is a flexible elastomer characterized by high chemical stability and resistance to high temperatures. Rubbers are used for various applications thanks to their properties. Flat gaskets are successfully produced from this type of rubber. The material exhibits antistatic properties and very good wear resistance (e.g. abrasion, tearing). Technical seals made of fluorine rubber have good fire resistance, and moreover the sheets are exceptionally resistant to high temperature (up to 260 degrees Celsius). Other properties of fluorine rubber include resistance to:

• ozone, UV radiation, weather conditions
• diesel and petrol
• transformer oil
• acids, oils, greases
• many aliphatic hydrocarbon fluids
• biogas

Technical seals made of fluoroelastomers perform excellently in low-wear applications such as protective gloves, cable insulations.

The blue color of fluorinated rubber sheets is intended for the food industry. Technical seals bring many benefits:

• resistance of the rubber in contact with hot, fatty food products
• does not stain the surface it contacts – the sheets are non-staining, making them safe in contact with food products – they do not contaminate them
• the sheets are non-toxic
• does not emit odor – the sheets are odorless

• shows resistance to temperatures up to 250° C
• the sheets have resistance to chlorinated hydrocarbons, fuel and acids
• compliant with the REACH regulation issued by the European Union

Most often the hardness of the sheet is 75 ShA (Shore A scale).

Sheets with FDA certification

The FDA certificate (Food and Drug Administration) guarantees that the material or products meet strict safety requirements and can be used for direct contact with food (food industry) or in work related to the medical industry. Viton sheets approved by the FDA are safe for repeated use in contact with food in food applications. Sheets with Food and Drug Administration certification are also available in white. They are used for gaskets, strips, joints in applications used in the pharmaceutical or food industries. Silicone sheets that have this certificate are also available on the market. Silicone is characterized by excellent resistance to high temperatures reaching up to 200° C. Silicone sheets are used in various branches of industry. Silicone technical seals with FDA certification allow their use in the food and pharmaceutical industries.
