EN 681-1 Standard
The EN 681-1 standard outlines the material requirements for elastomeric gaskets used in water supply and drainage pipe joints. Part 1 specifically applies to vulcanised rubber seals.
Elastomeric Seals According to EN 681-1
Any product intended for use in sealing systems for cold and hot drinking water must meet strict regulatory requirements and pass detailed quality and safety tests.
Elastomeric seals compliant with EN 681-1 are designed for permanent or temporary contact with potable water without negatively affecting its quality. Vulcanised rubber gaskets must not contain harmful substances, and before being approved for use, they must undergo a series of laboratory tests and certification procedures.
Since the entire process — from water extraction to treatment and final delivery — must remain safe, the materials used must demonstrate low extractables and be free from contaminants. The detailed specifications laid out in EN 681-1 are intended to guarantee water safety throughout the entire supply chain.
EN 681-1 – Application Scope
As mentioned above, the EN 681-1 standard defines the requirements for rubber sealing materials used in pipe joints designed for:
-
Cold drinking water supply systems (up to 50°C)
-
Hot drinking water and non-potable water supply (up to 110°C)
-
Drainage, sewage and stormwater systems, with continuous flow temperatures up to 45°C and intermittent flow up to 95°C
These parameters ensure reliable performance across various water distribution and wastewater management applications.
