Platinum-cured silicone hose

A platinum-cured silicone hose is a product preferred by many industries and is available in our store.

Platinum silicone – discover its features and advantages

Durability and resistance

The material is chemically safe and resistant to stretching and tearing. It is used in many applications in the pharmaceutical industry (e.g. as connections between tanks). In applications where higher pressures occur, a flexible platinum-cured silicone hose with reinforcement is used.

Biocompatibility

Tubes made of platinum-cured silicone (platinum) are non-toxic, do not yellow, and do not contain peroxide by-products. These features make it an excellent material for applications where absolute cleanliness and hygiene are required. A platinum-cured silicone tube does not react with other materials and objects (dishes, bottles, glass, copper, fittings, plastic, copper or aluminum items) and does not contaminate the products it comes into contact with, which makes it ideal for the medical, pharmaceutical, food and automotive industries. Tasteless and odorless.

Transparency

Platinum-coated tubing has slightly better transparency than peroxide-cured tubing. They are used in laboratory peristaltic pumps for single-use applications for media transfer and product dosing. Biocompatible silicone tubing reduces the risk of complications in patients. Moreover, the transparency of the material makes it easier for medical staff to observe the transferred medium.

Compatible with multiple sterilization methods

Regular sterilization in the medical industry increases patient safety, helps avoid hazards, and eliminates contamination. Platinum-cured silicone hose can also be sterilized in an autoclave.

Meets stringent requirements

Platinum cross-linked silicone tubing is approved by the FDA for contact with food (e.g. fish) and drinking water. It also meets USP Class VI standards for biocompatibility of materials used in medical equipment, as well as BfR and EP 3.1.9. Other features and advantages include:

  • anti-adhesive properties
  • flexibility
  • available in many colors (green, red)

Versatile applications of platinum-cured silicone

Liquid transport

Platinum silicone hoses ensure sanitary fluid flow, making them ideal for hygiene-critical applications (medical and pharmaceutical applications, food processing). In addition, the tube features a smooth internal surface that prevents the accumulation and stagnation of substances. The material is resistant to high temperatures, provides excellent biocompatibility, and is chemically inert. These features ensure that platinum-cured silicone tubing maintains the purity of sensitive fluids. The hoses are also suitable for:

  • tubing for medical equipment (devices, sterile transfer)
  • tubing for handling dairy fluids (milk transfer, fermentation filtration)
  • seals (oven gasket, freezer gasket, cooler gasket)
  • pharmaceutical industry (drug delivery)
  • glass industry
  • peristaltic tubing
  • aviation industry

The material has many applications; for example, gaskets are also made from silicone mats. Silicone stoppers are characterized by durability and mechanical resistance. A stopper (e.g. L: 25.4, up to 315°C) is suitable for powder coating (due to good sealing properties) as well as electrostatic coating by immersion in liquid.

What is PTFE tape?

PTFE tape is used for sealing threads and making connections. The price depends on the type of tape (the most popular widths are 12 mm or 19 mm). Its advantage is flexibility, which allows for quick and easy application. If you are wondering where it is used, here are some examples:

Water installations

PTFE does not react with water, does not corrode, and is resistant to temperature changes. It is used for sealing threads in drinking water installations and domestic water heaters. Such water is safe to drink.

Gas installations

It is perfectly suitable for use in central heating systems.

Distillation applications

White PTFE tape does not affect taste and is therefore suitable for distillation applications. The problem of the “rotten egg smell” can be eliminated in apparatus (glass or steel) by using pieces of copper (easy to solder and cut, clamps also available for replacement). This solution causes water- and alcohol-insoluble sulfides to be removed mechanically or by etching. Glass is considered one of the best materials for building a distiller (95% of users are satisfied with this solution). It is acid-resistant and safe for health. It should be noted that rubber fuel hoses are not suitable for building a distiller because they harden under cold water and are not intended for contact with food and drinking water (markings are on the product label). They should also not be used for steam supply lines to the distillate. The only solution is white (transparent) silicone tubing. During distiller operation, glass condensers must be kept upright. Any leaks may cause vapors to escape, posing an explosion risk, especially if the boiler is placed on a gas stove. The boiler can also be made of aluminum Al (aluminum and its salts are not volatile, so theoretically they should not be harmful), stainless steel (acid-resistant steel according to PN standards: 316 AISI, X5CrNiMo17-12-2), with a housing made for example of plastic. The price depends on capacity. Some people use large (5 L) mineral water bottles for fermenting mash and wort. The price depends on capacity (pots can be purchased from PLN 150). Distillery yeast (including for fruit wine production) can be purchased in specialty stores or on the popular auction portal Allegro. If you are in the process of building a distiller, be sure to use our platinum-cured silicone hoses.

Other

A coupling is a connector used to join two elements. The tape serves as a thread-sealing element. Wood couplings are also available and used in the furniture industry (e.g. office furniture). Why do we mention this? It is also a noteworthy product. We supply transparent platinum-cured silicone hoses for the medical and pharmaceutical industries, as well as for individual customers. We offer discounts for regular customers.
