O-rings – Available rubber compounds

It is worth adding that each of the available compounds has its own specification for use (e.g. different resistance to abrasion, ozone, gas). For example:

NBR O-rings are the most commonly used sealing rings. Why is that? It is because of the price. An O-ring made of this compound is the cheapest. This type of seal is recommended for short-term contact with mineral oils, vegetable oils and synthetic oils. It is also used in places where they are used once for a short time.

Viton/FKM/FPM O-rings® are seals that last the longest in contact with oils and petroleum-derived substances, where longevity matters. Using this type of rubber compound aims, among other things, to reduce the number of repairs and tooling changes. A higher one-time cost for the seal allows cost reduction over a long period of use.

EPDM O-rings are rings most commonly used in air conditioning systems and for contact with water. The best examples are their use in kitchen and bathroom faucets, or in hose and tubing connections. There is also a chance to find them – if the manufacturer is aware of it – in pressure washers. They are also the green O-rings – this green color is used to increase the ability to distinguish them from other compounds.

Silicone O-rings VMQ are seals resistant to high temperature. The ability to work at temperatures up to 280°C requires their use. They most often appear in red, brick, or white, or transparent colors. Silicone O-rings are food-grade O-rings - they have FDA (Food and Drug Administration) certification, which allows them to be safely used in contact with food and drinking water. This type of certification confirms the quality of the material that does not migrate into foodstuffs. We specialize in VMQ seals, which are perfectly suited for the food, pharmaceutical and medical industries. This type of O-ring is used, for example, in feeders for food and liquids.
