Technical rubber sheets

Rubber sheets have varied properties and applications. They are most often used as seals, serve to protect surfaces in industrial premises, maintain cleanliness at workstations, and also dampen generated vibrations and insulate against voltage. The following rubber sheets are distinguished:

• general-purpose SBR
• oil-resistant NBR
• acid-resistant EPDM
• made of chloroprene rubber CR
• suitable for contact with food
• sheets made of porous rubber

Rubber sheets have varied thickness. Thinner ones, with thickness from 1 to 10 mm, are sold in rolls with a width of 1200 mm (limited length up to 10 m). Thicker ones, with dimensions from 12 to 50 mm, are sold as individual formats with dimensions 1000 x 1000 mm.

Depending on the required strength, there are also rubber sheets reinforced with textile interlayers, used in more demanding technical applications.

For sealing applications, gasket sheets are used, selected appropriately for temperature, pressure and type of medium.

Rubber sheets - characteristics

Rubber sheets SBR

They are characterized by good tensile and tear strength. Made from styrene-butadiene rubber compounds, called general-purpose sheets or ordinary solid rubber. The SBR sheet is the most common choice among buyers. It has universal applications.

NBR rubber sheets

Vulcanized sheets made on the basis of a nitrile-butadiene rubber compound. They are resistant to the action of organic solvents, oils, greases and fuels. In applications requiring increased resistance to petroleum and oils, it is worth checking also rubber sheets resistant to petroleum and oils.

FKM rubber sheets for fuels and hydraulic oils

FKM sheets are sheets that have resistance to continuous contact with fuels and oils. Admittedly, this is a more expensive version than the aforementioned NBR, however it has much better chemical and temperature resistance. (reminder: NBR up to +100°C, and FKM up to +220°C). FKM should be used as seals, e.g. in car engines.

EPDM rubber sheets

Produced from a rubber compound based on ethylene-propylene-diene rubber. Resistant to the action of chemical substances, they perform excellently in contact with mineral acids, strong cleaning agents, or alcohol. They are not adversely affected by light, heat and ozone. CR rubber sheets

Made of chloroprene rubber. Very hard, resistant to adverse environmental effects. They are resistant to cracking and ozone.

Silicone sheets FDA VMQ

Silicone rubber in the form of rubber sheets for the food industry. Most often FDA certified, however one should be careful because there are much cheaper ones without certification.
