Intended use:

The primary purpose of safety barriers is to ensure road traffic safety. They are used in places where a vehicle crossing beyond the road edge or lane divider poses a serious threat to road users. Safety barriers are used on viaducts and embankments where there are permanent objects and obstacles close to the road (poles, buildings, etc.) with which a collision could be particularly dangerous.

A properly designed, manufactured, and installed road safety barrier should:

• prevent a vehicle from crossing beyond the road edge or through the divider onto the oncoming traffic lane,
• redirect the vehicle onto a lane of traffic parallel or close to parallel to the barrier, with minimal risk to other vehicles. In particular, there should be no rebound or elastic rejection of the vehicle,
• cause minimal damage to the vehicle during a collision, ideally limited to bodywork elements, not seriously affecting the driver's control over the direction and trajectory of the vehicle,
• clearly and visibly define the outer edge of the road or highway,
