What are gas hoses used for?
Hoses for gas installations are designed for transporting gas to household appliances powered by gas inside and outside the building.
Gas pipes are divided into two groups:
- low-pressure hoses (acetylene, oxygen, natural gas, propane-butane gas mixture, neutral gas)
- high-pressure hoses (above 140 bar)
Gas hoses are intended for various applications, such as:
- hoses for gas cylinders (used for filling and emptying cylinders)
- welding hoses
- LPG hose
- hoses for medical and food gases
When choosing hoses for a gas installation, attention should be paid to the properties of the gas, such as flammability, pressure, temperature, gas contamination, safety requirements.

The hose for transporting welding gases is made up of several layers to ensure strength. The acetylene hose has an inner layer made of rubber and an outer layer reinforced with various types of braiding.
Welding hoses designed for gas transmission come in three colors:
- blue - used for oxygen transport;
- red - intended for acetylene and flammable gas transfer (excluding natural gas, LPG, and methane);
- black - used for compressed air, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide transmission;
The acetylene welding hose is resistant to abrasion, damage, breakage, and atmospheric conditions, and is marked with a red color. It is designed for acetylene flow during welding and metal cutting. Acetylene hoses have different wall thicknesses, for example: acetylene hose thickness 0.5 mm, acetylene hose thickness 3.5 mm.
Oxygen hoses are used for oxygen transfer during welding and metal cutting. The outer layer is made of EPDM/SRB rubber compound, which has excellent properties, including resistance to atmospheric conditions and oxygen. Additionally, it is reinforced with textile braiding (e.g., oxygen hose thickness 3.5 mm).
Natural gas and propane-butane hose
In households, natural gas hoses are mainly used to connect the stove or gas hob, heating, water heating appliances to the power source, which is gas.
Propane-butane hose is resistant to damage in case of contact with hot objects. In domestic gas installations, it is used to properly connect gas-powered appliances (e.g. 4 mm thickness propane-butane hose, 3.5 mm thickness propane-butane hose). The hose for gas stoves provides a tight connection between the burner and the gas cylinder, for example.
