HNBR o rings
Manufacturer of HNBR rubber O-rings
They are designed to increase the thermal resistance of ordinary NBR orings. Their improved version is hnbr orings, which combine manyadvantages, thanks to which they find a wide range of applications – especially dynamic ones. They are resistant to mechanical damage (e.g. abrasion), as well as to engine, diesel and bio-oils,mineral-based hydraulic fluids and vegetable and animal fats. The so-called green orings are distinguished by thermal stability, which means that they are insensitive to very large temperature scales: from -30 °C to +150 °C.
The product comes in different sizes. It will be effective wherever there is contact with liquids to which it is resistant, and where mechanical forces can act on it damaging weaker orings. Hydraulic fluids such as HFA, HFB and HFC, aliphatic hydrocarbons, ozone or weather conditions are also not able to destroy HNBR orings. All thanks to the production process aimed at obtaining a product of high quality and durability.

HNBR O-rings from Rubber Choices Manufacturer
Material - HNBR rubber
The material from which HNBR o-rings are made is hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber. It was created by modifying nitrile rubber (NBR) through hydrogenation. Its use is recommended at temperatures ranging from -30°C to +150°C. Seals made of HNBR are known for their resistance to various types of greases, oils from vegetable and animal sources to mineral and drive oils. However, it should be noted that these seals are adversely affected by engine oil and grease, chlorinated hydrocarbons, ketones, or glycol-based fluids. Another advantage is their low susceptibility to diluted acids and bases, as well as factors such as hydraulic fluids, gasoline, propane, butane, and even ozone. Due to their good mechanical and physical properties, such as high resistance to abrasion, stretching, loads, or deformations, they have found application in both static and dynamic systems. HNBR is used in hydraulic systems such as pumps, motors, and pneumatic systems like lifts, feeders, and brakes.
Application of HNBR O-rings
HNBR o-rings (hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber) are advanced elastomeric seals known for their exceptional mechanical, chemical, and thermal resistance. Due to the modified polymer structure, HNBR provides better resistance to high temperatures, aggressive chemicals, and extreme working conditions than standard NBR o-rings. Their excellent properties make them widely used in various industrial sectors.
Where are HNBR o-rings used?
Automotive Industry
HNBR o-rings are widely used in engine and drivetrain systems where high temperatures and aggressive chemical environments are present. They are used in:
- shaft and hydraulic pump seals
- cooling and air conditioning systems (compatible with refrigerants such as R134a)
- fuel and lubrication systems exposed to oils and fuels
Oil and Gas Industry
Due to their excellent resistance to mineral oils, fuels, ozone, and high temperatures, HNBR o-rings are commonly used in:
- valve and pump seals in extraction installations
- compressor systems and gas processing installations
- high-pressure systems in contact with aggressive media
Chemical Industry
HNBR o-rings are resistant to many aggressive chemicals, making them an ideal sealing solution for process installations in:
- petrochemical and refinery industries
- installations transporting aggressive chemicals and acids
- production equipment requiring reliable and durable seals
Hydraulic and Pneumatic Industry
The excellent mechanical resistance and low deformation of HNBR o-rings make them suitable for use in:
- seals for hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders
- sealing elements in industrial machinery
- systems requiring robust seals for high pressure
Food and Pharmaceutical Industry
In special versions, HNBR o-rings meet food and pharmaceutical contact approval standards. They are used in:
- sealing pumps and valves in dairy, brewing, and food industries
- pharmaceutical installations requiring high chemical and hygienic resistance
Why is it worth using HNBR o-rings?
HNBR O-rings (hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber) are seals with exceptional resistance to high temperatures, oils, fuels, and aggressive chemicals. Their main function is to provide sealing in hydraulic, pneumatic, automotive, and industrial systems where traditional NBR O-rings do not guarantee sufficient durability.
Thanks to increased resistance to abrasion, ozone, and thermal aging, HNBR O-rings ensure long-lasting sealing and reliability, minimizing the risk of leaks and system failures operating in extreme conditions.
Benefits of using HNBR O-rings:
- high temperature resistance - standard HNBR O-rings can operate in temperatures from -40°C to +150°C, and in special versions even up to +165°C
- excellent chemical resistance - resistant to oils, greases, fuels, ozone, acids, and aggressive chemicals
- high mechanical strength - resistance to wear, cracking, and permanent deformation
- excellent long-term stability - low aging coefficient and minimal loss of sealing properties
- versatility of applications - suitable for automotive, chemical industry, hydraulics, energy, and many other sectors
HNBR O-rings are reliable seals for the most demanding applications, where durability, resistance to harsh conditions, and operational safety are crucial. Due to their wide range of applications, they are a key element in many industrial systems.
