FVMQ rubber – Fluorosilicone rubber

FVMQ rubber are fluorosilicone rubbers produced in the process of chemical reactions involving the fluorination of methyl-silicone rubbers. Fluorosilicone rubbers are more durable than ordinary silicone vulcanizers and have better physical and mechanical parameters. Among other things, they are more resistant to tearing, permanent deformation under compressive force and have high durability to the action of mineral oils, propellants, and lubricants. In the presence of atmospheric factors, ozone and ultraviolet radiation, FVMQ rubber also behaves permanently.

What does FVMQ stand for?

Fluorosilicone rubber is also available on the market under the trade name Silastic LS. Another name for FVMQ is also fluorosilicone rubber. The name FVMQ is derived from the names of the chemical reactions accompanying the formation of this material. The rubber is a fluorosilicone polymer based on polyalkylsilanes which are subject to peroxide crosslinking. Mixtures of rubber with fillers are widely available on the market, which can be combined with cross-linking agents, i.e. peroxides. It is a type of rubber base from which the mentioned FVMQ can be obtained. The parameters of this database are:

  • hardness 40 – 80 ShA,
  • a density of 1.30 to 1.70 kg / cm3.

Fluorosilicone rubber FVMQ – material properties

This rubber is a perfect complement to the silicone rubber market. Contrary to most available materials, it is distinguished by excellent resistance to solvents and mineral fuels. It is compared to fluoro elastomers. However, it has a distinct disadvantage that greatly limits its use. This disadvantage is the high cost of the material. However, if you focus on the material itself, it presents a large range of properties valuable for the industry, such as:

  • high tensile strength, reference range: Mpa 8 – 7.5,
  • elongation in the range of 600% – 250%,
  • permanent deformation at 175 degrees Celsius, within 70 hours is 24% – 25%,
  • ozone resistant,
  • resistant to weather conditions,
  • resistant to ultraviolet radiation,
  • conditionally resistant to non-flammable hydraulic fluids of HSD type,
  • resistant to dilute saline solutions and alcohols,
  • no reaction to work in the environment with the use of mineral and synthetic oils.

The temperature range is -60 to 190 degrees Celsius, but applies to tests performed in the air. This may mean that it may not coincide with what is in force in other media.

FVMQ is not immune during operation:

  • concentrated acids and bases,
  • esters and ethers,
  • aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons,
  • and water vapor, the temperature of which is over 100 degrees Celsius.

FVMQ is a universal material used in various economic sectors. It also shows chemical and biochemical indifference. It is a very easily dyed material – it can be produced in a transparent, colored, fluorescent, textured and shiny form. It is also fireproof and does not emit toxic combustion products when in contact with fire. An important feature of the material is also good dielectric conductivity. Peak values for working with this rubber may increase for a short time even up to 300 degrees Celsius.

O-rings FVMQ – high temperature O-rings

It is a special type of O-rings, i.e. technical seals characterized by excellent resistance to high temperatures. O-rings made of fluorosilicone elastomer retain properties similar to VMQ rubber – the resistance to fuel and mineral oil has been improved. Compared to standard silicone, FMVQ has a reduced resistance to hot air.

The temperature range they work well is -60 to 230 degrees Celsius. FVMQ o-rings have much better abrasion resistance and better physico-chemical properties compared to standard silicones. Although the structure of FVMQ itself resembles the side chains of silicone-based rubbers, the binding of the trifluoropeptide, methyl and vinyl significantly improved these properties.
