Micro foam
A versatile material for use in many applications
Microcellular foam is an elastic material with a porous (foamed) structure. This flexible material is characterized by excellent elasticity, allowing it to maintain its properties even under high pressure. There are two types of foam rubber: closed-cell structure and open-cell structure. Thanks to its properties, microcellular foam is used for thermal and acoustic insulation, as well as vibration damping.
What is microfoam?
Microcellular foam is a flexible material made from foam rubber based on rubber compounds such as EPDM, CR, NBR, SBR. It contains pockets in its structure that can be interconnected or isolated. The product exhibits excellent elastic, thermal insulating, and sound-absorbing properties.
Closed-cell microcellular foam is composed of individual cells, each with a separate elastomeric wall, making it completely impermeable (does not absorb water). It effectively prevents heat transfer. It seals well against noise and contaminants (e.g., dust).
Open-cell microcellular foam has a structure where cells are open and interconnected. The material is more permeable, giving it absorbing properties, but it can also lose them if compressed. It excels at noise absorption, hence its use in acoustic insulation.
The destiny of micro rubber
Microcellular rubber is a versatile material used for sealing, insulating, and cushioning, which finds wide applications in various industries including automotive, public transport, marine sector, aviation, and construction. Power Rubber store offers microcellular rubber that is used in:
- technical seals to prevent water, dust, and air infiltration
- vibration and shock absorption, effectively protecting devices and structures from damage
- thermal and acoustic insulation, for noise reduction and thermal protection e.g. in construction
- manufacturing seals, gaskets, bumpers, and protective components
What are the benefits of using micro rubber?
Foam rubber is a highly elastic and resilient sealing material. It easily conforms to surfaces, providing reliable sealing. It also works well as sound insulation and cushioning. The material is durable and resistant to wear, making it suitable for heavy use. It has the ability to compress and fill irregular gaps. It does not age under UV radiation, ozone, and extreme temperatures. Sponge rubber is available in various thicknesses and densities.
The product offers many unique functional properties used in various industries, including aerospace, automotive, construction, and household appliances.
Microfoam is commonly used in HVAC systems, refrigeration equipment, and industrial pipelines. It is also great for soundproofing homes, offices, gyms, and fitness centers. Foam rubber is also used to enhance thermal comfort. It absorbs impacts and has exceptional sound-absorbing properties, creating quieter environments in theaters, cinemas, recording studios, music halls, as well as in manufacturing plants and warehouses. Microfoam reduces the impact of various hazards such as compression, vibrations, and impacts, which is crucial in transportation, ensuring the safe arrival of items. The closed-cell structure of sponge rubber is moisture-resistant, maintaining stability and preventing swelling. It is an excellent choice for marine and aquatic applications.
