Buying Rubber Profiles
Rubber profiles – materials and usage
Rubber profiles are produced from various rubber compounds. The most common are SBR (general-purpose), NBR (oil-resistant), EPDM (weatherproof). Less common are CR (Neoprene), FKM/Viton, and MVQ/Silicone. Polyurethane profiles are available as custom options. It’s crucial to choose a supplier offering custom rubber seals, ensuring precise fitting gaskets. Check manufacturer reputation and available rubber gasket materials before purchasing.
Material properties explained
NBR – nitrile rubber
Highly resistant to solvents, oils, greases, fuels. Flexible and widely used for oil-resistant seals.
SBR – styrene-butadiene
Tough, tear-resistant, heat-aged. Ideal for general-purpose rubber seals and washers.
EPDM – ethylene-propylene
Excellent chemical, UV, ozone resistance; works between –50 °C and +130 °C (up to +150 °C). Ideal for outdoor sealing profiles.
CR – neoprene
Weather-resistant, hard-wearing, retains flexibility under frequent flexing.
FKM/Viton – fluoro rubber
Outstanding chemical resistance (fuels, acids, solvents, oils), stable from –40 °C to +250 °C. Long-lasting industrial seals.
MVQ – silicone
Operates from –60 °C to +200 °C, UV-resistant, flame-retardant. Suited to food-grade and medical sealing.
Shared features of rubber profiles
-
High mechanical strength
-
Durable under harsh weather conditions
-
Designed for sealing applications
-
Available in various Shore hardness levels
-
Reinforcements possible (e.g. wire or fabric)
-
Excellent in compression and extension
-
Some are food-contact certified
Material selection depends on exposure conditions: oils (NBR), acids (EPDM), static (MVQ), etc.
Sales and delivery options
Rubber and silicone profiles are available in-stock and as custom-made seals. Standard delivery typically takes a few days; custom orders may be delayed. Many suppliers offer fast delivery, but bespoke profiles will follow the seller’s production timelines. Contact us to discuss bulk pricing or custom requirements.
