What is a rubber sheet and what is it made of?

Thick Rubber sheets are flexible products intended for many applications. They are made of various types of rubber, i.e. rubber compounds with different properties. Here are a few of them:

Natural rubber (NR) It is elastic and resistant to mechanical damage. It has excellent shock-absorbing properties. Often used as a sheet for stationary workshop surfaces resistant to cutting and slicing.

EPDM Works very well in outdoor applications. Resistant to acids and bases as well as demanding weather conditions.

Neoprene (CR) Used for industrial applications. Resistant to corrosion, petroleum products, oils, acids and bases. Provides acoustic insulation.

NBR Has high resistance to oils and solvent-based products. Oil-resistant NBR rubbers are used in areas where there is a high risk of oily substance leaks. Technical sheets made of oil-resistant NBR rubber protect against the most commonly occurring oils.

SBR The advantage of this rubber is a low permanent deformation factor after compression. SBR rubber sheets are suitable for indoor use. Resistant to abrasion.

Silicone Is a material with high resistance to aging in atmospheric conditions. Most often used in the pharmaceutical industry. It is characterized by low permeability and resistance to high temperatures.

Thickness of the rubber sheet

Rubber sheets are a very good insulating material that, thanks to their flexibility, adheres to any, even uneven, substrate. They are available in various thicknesses (4 mm, 10 mm, 30 mm, 40 mm, etc.). The thickness of the rubber sheet depends on the force of pressure that will be exerted on it. The greater the load, the thicker the sheet should be used for a particular application. For example: thin rubber sheets (3 mm, 4 mm) are used e.g. to cover workbench tops and hardened floors. Rubber sheets with a thickness of 10 mm or 20 mm work very well as a base under machines. Rubber sheets (40 mm, 50 mm) can be used as a mat under heavy equipment on a construction site.

In the case of machines and devices, rubber sheets can also serve as vibration isolation, limiting the transfer of vibrations to the substrate. Properly selected thickness and hardness of the material additionally allow noise reduction and protect the surface from mechanical loads.

Applications of thick rubber sheet

Thanks to their exceptional properties, rubber sheets have a wide range of applications. Rubber sheets are used in industrial halls, residential buildings, garages, workshops. As mentioned earlier, the thickness of the rubber sheet depends on the amount of load we want to place on it. They are available in two variants: solid rubber sheet and foamed rubber sheet (so-called rubber granulate sheet). Rubber sheets work excellently as flooring in home and commercial gyms. Rubber granulate sheets can be used in places with intensive use (e.g. fitness rooms). Different sheet thicknesses allow appropriate adaptation depending on loads and traffic intensity. It is worth mentioning that rubber granulate sheets, besides gyms and use under machines, also perform very well on playgrounds.

Rubber sheets (rubber mats) are an ideal solution to protect surfaces in home and commercial gyms. Gyms and fitness clubs are equipped with heavy machines and equipment, which requires that surfaces be covered with durable rubber sheets that absorb impacts.

Acoustic insulation

Using a thicker rubber sheet in the gym reduces noise caused by dropping dumbbells and barbells on the floor. This is of great importance for home gym surfaces, especially if we have neighbors nearby for whom the noise may be troublesome. Rubber gym mats limit the transmission of sound, which increases comfort not only for those exercising but also for people in adjacent rooms.

Protection of the floor from damage

The thicker the rubber (30 mm, 40 mm), the better the floor protection. Thick rubber sheets for the gym will protect surfaces from damage and destruction during, for example, putting down a barbell.

Shock absorption

Thick gym mats have excellent shock-absorbing properties. The load-bearing system allows absorbing impacts during jumping off a box or skipping rope.

Anti-slip surface

Safe gym surfaces must ensure safety. Installing rubber sheets provides anti-slip properties that minimize the risk of slipping and falling and the unpleasant consequences associated with it. Gym rubber mats are designed so that their edges do not curl up, thereby preventing accidental snagging. Gym sheets provide good grip for the feet.

Moisture resistance

Rubber has waterproof properties that limit the possibility of mold and fungus formation and development. The quick-drying surface increases comfort and safety during training.
