EN 549 Standard
The EN 549 standard applies to rubber materials used for seals and diaphragms in gas appliances and gas installation components.
It specifies the requirements and associated testing methods for rubber compounds used in gas systems and appliances that come into contact with flammable gases of groups 1, 2, and 3 as defined in EN 437:2018. This also includes natural gas, biomethane, and biomethane-based LPG of comparable quality.
EN 549 also includes a classification system based on operating temperature range and hardness levels. The standard applies to materials used to produce homogeneous seals and homogeneous or reinforced diaphragms.
Rubber Products Compliant with EN 549
Rubber products that meet the EN 549 standard are specifically designed for use in gas systems, ensuring compatibility and safety. They are commonly used in heating systems, gas boilers, and residential and industrial gas installations.
Technical Specifications of Rubber Products in Line with EN 549
The EN 549 standard applies to rubber products designed to operate within a temperature range of -40°C to +150°C.
The standard does not apply to silicone rubber products used at a nominal pressure above 200 hPa (200 mbar) or at temperatures below 0°C when used with group 3 gases, due to the risk of condensation.
Key Features of EN 549 Compliant Rubber Materials
Elastomer sealing materials that comply with EN 549 ensure durability, resistance to temperature extremes, and chemical compatibility required for gas installations. Each compliant product should be clearly marked with the recommended operating temperature range.
