FDA Approved Materials
Silicone seals are the most commonly used O-rings, which are clean and used in healthcare, pharmaceutical, and food industries. Other seals made from different materials with FDA certification are also available, including:
FKM
Fluorocarbon rubber (FKM/Viton) is resistant to high temperatures and offers excellent chemical resistance. FKM seals protect against substances such as carbon dioxide, acids, glucose, hydraulic fluids. FKM rubber is available in blue or black.
FFKM
It works excellently in applications that come into contact with chemicals, work across a wide temperature range, and require long-lasting durability. One of the most expensive materials.
EPDM
EPDM rubber O-rings are highly resistant to weather conditions, sunlight, UV radiation, ozone, and also offer excellent electrical insulation properties. We offer EPDM mixtures that are both peroxide-cured (produced in a peroxide vulcanization process) and sulfur-cured EPDM.
MVQ
Silicone seals are among the most frequently used seals certified by FDA or PZH. We offer the production of flat seals with any parameters.
Standards and Specifications for Seals in Food Contact Applications
FDA-certified silicone seals meet the stringent standards imposed on the food, medical, and pharmaceutical industries. The production of these O-rings and their use in contact with food products or drinking water must guarantee the highest level of cleanliness and hygiene.
In Poland, the HACCP system ensures food safety by continuously monitoring three areas (microbiological, physical, and chemical hazards) to ensure that food production (including in the hospitality sector) occurs in a manner that is safe for the consumer.
FDA Certified O-Rings
An O-ring is a sealing ring with a circular cross-section. It can be made from various materials (NBR, EPDM, PTFE, Viton, VMQ O-rings). This type of seal is one of the most commonly used in the industry. It prevents the leakage of media outside, and also prevents the entry of contaminants (dust, dirt, liquids) inside. O-rings are ideal for both static and dynamic applications.
Silicone Sealing Rings - Reliable O-Rings Used in Food Contact
Silicone can withstand high temperatures, has good dielectric stability, and is resistant not only to acids, bases, chemicals, and hot air, but also to water and fungi. Silicone is a high-quality non-toxic rubber, which, thanks to its properties, performs excellently in medical and food applications.
Versatile Applications
Silicone O-rings are used in numerous medical and food applications, and are frequently found in:
-
Healthcare devices (respiratory equipment, masks, intubation tubes)
-
Medication dispensing devices
-
Fluid transport and control devices (e.g., beverages)
-
Pumps, equipment
Advantages of Silicone O-Rings
The benefits of silicone O-rings in the medical and food sectors include primarily no leakage, cracking, or failure, as well as:
Biocompatibility
Medical-grade O-rings are designed with patient safety in mind. It is important to note that silicone compounds are very pure, and in the medical industry, this type of seal is highly resistant to chemicals, heat, low gas permeability, and, most importantly, does not react with other objects or human tissue.
Odorless and Tasteless
At Power Rubber, we offer silicone O-rings that are completely odorless and do not alter the taste of the substances they come into contact with. Odorless and tasteless silicone O-rings are the ideal choice in healthcare, food processing, and pharmaceutical applications. We agree that silicone O-rings are an excellent choice for food industry applications.
Silicone and its Properties for Special Conditions
Check out the properties of silicone O-rings:
-
Heat Resistance
Silicone seals (O-rings) are excellent for high-temperature applications. They have a wide operational temperature range (from -60°C to +210°C). VMQ rubber can also tolerate extreme temperatures short-term (up to +250°C). -
Weather Resistance
Silicone technical seals are resistant to degradation due to ozone and UV radiation. -
Excellent Flexibility and Low Compression
Power Rubber is a manufacturer of flexible VMQ O-rings, which can be used in nearly any environment. They are flexible even at low ambient temperatures. Additionally, O-rings of this material maintain their shape despite high levels of repeated compression, allowing them to return to their original state once the stress is released. -
Available in Different Colors, Sizes, and Hardness
Material hardness is commonly expressed on the Shore A scale from 0 to 100. Selecting the appropriate hardness for a given work environment is crucial, as a lower number indicates a soft material, while a higher number on the Shore A scale means the seal is more resistant to mechanical deformation and wear. Available in a wide range of colors and sizes. -
Resistance to Oils and Chemicals
Elastomer materials made from silicone, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen are compatible with engine and gear oils, fats, and animal and vegetable oils.
Silicone seals have poor wear and tear resistance, as well as low tensile strength. These features make silicone seals suitable only for static applications. They are not intended for dynamic applications such as seals for rotating shafts. It is also important to note that their use is not suitable for contact with steam and compounds such as ketones (e.g., acetone).
Wide Range of Applications for Silicone Products
Silicone-based rubber products (cords, seals, O-rings, flat seals) are suitable for a wide range of applications across various industries, such as:
-
Food industry
-
Medical industry
-
Automotive industry
-
Electronics industry
-
Aerospace
-
Cooling systems
-
Pressure washers
-
Water treatment devices
