Materials approved by the FDA

Silicone seals are the most commonly encountered O-rings; they are clean and are used in the healthcare, pharmaceutical and food industries. There are also seals on the market made of other types of materials that have certification from the Food and Drug Administration, which include, among others:

FKM
Fluorocarbon rubber (FKM/Viton), which is resistant to high temperatures and has excellent chemical resistance. FKM seals protect against substances such as: carbon dioxide, acids, glucose, hydraulic fluids. FKM rubber is blue or black.

FFKM
Excellent for applications that come into contact with chemicals, operate over a wide temperature range, and require long service life. One of the most expensive.

EPDM
O-rings made from EPDM rubber are characterized by high resistance to weathering, sunlight, UV radiation, ozone, as well as excellent electrical insulating properties. We offer EPDM rubber compounds peroxide cured (i.e., produced by peroxide vulcanization) as well as EPDM sulphur cured (produced by sulfur vulcanization).

MVQ

Silicone seals are among the most commonly used seals with FDA or PZH certification. We offer production of flat seals with any parameters.

Standards and norms for seals intended for contact with food products

Silicone seals with FDA certification (Food and Drugs Administration) meet the strict standards imposed on the food, medical and pharmaceutical industries. The production of such O-rings, and then their use in contact with food products or drinking water, must guarantee the highest level of cleanliness and hygiene.

In Poland, the HCCAP system is in force, which oversees food safety, continuously monitoring three areas (microbiological, physical and chemical hazards), so that food production (including in the catering sector) is carried out in a manner safe for the consumer.

O-rings with FDA certification

An O-ring is a sealing ring with a circular cross-section. It can be made from various materials (NBR O-rings, EPDM, PTFE, Viton, VMQ). This type of seal is one of the most commonly used in industry. They prevent medium from leaking out, as well as prevent contaminants (dust, dirt, liquids) from entering. The O-ring seal performs excellently in both static and dynamic applications.

Thermal resistance

Silicone seals (O-rings) perform excellently in high-temperature applications. They have a wide operating temperature range (from -60°C to +210° C). VMQ rubber is also capable of short-term tolerance of extreme temperatures (up to +250° C).

Resistance to atmospheric conditions

Technical silicone seals are resistant to degradation caused by ozone
and UV radiation.

Excellent flexibility and low compression

Power Rubber is a manufacturer of flexible VMQ O-rings that can be used in almost any environment. They are characterized by flexibility even at low ambient temperatures. Moreover, rings made of this material retain their shape despite a high level of repeated compression, allowing them to return to their original state after the stress is removed.

Material hardness is most often expressed on the Shore A scale from 0 to 100. Choosing the appropriate hardness for a given working environment is extremely important, because a lower number means a softer material, while a higher number on the Shore A scale means that the seal is more resistant to mechanical deformation and abrasion. Available in a wide range of colors and sizes.

Resistance to oils and chemicals

The group of elastomeric materials made of silicone, oxygen, carbon dioxide and hydrogen is compatible in contact with engine and transmission oils, greases, as well as animal and vegetable oils.

Silicone seals are characterized by poor resistance to abrasion and tearing, as well as low tensile strength. These features mean that a silicone seal should be used only in static applications. They are not intended for dynamic applications, e.g., as seals for rotating shafts. The description relating to silicone seals also contains a notice that their use does not work well in contact with steam and compounds such as ketones (e.g., acetone).
