Venturi effect

Venturi effect

Why does waterjet cutting work? The device compresses the water, which is forced through a hole having a very small diameter. From the high pressure of the jet, the water turns to high speed. This creates a vacuum, also known as the Venturi effect. The abrasive is drawn into the chamber, which determines the Venturi effect, and then accelerates, thus creating an abrasive jet.
