MVQ silicone rubber – VMQ silicone rubber

Silicone VMQ – MVQ silicone rubber

MVQ silicone rubber is an interesting type of rubbers belonging to silicone groups. These are multi-molecular rubbers which are organosiloxane polymers. Polysiloxanes, a special variation of which are organosiloxanes, are molecular chains composed of silicon and oxygen atoms. They are much more durable than siloxanes, which remain in liquid form even at room temperature. Thus, polysiloxanes are used in particularly difficult environmental conditions.

Silicone rubber is a very resistant material. May show slight permanent deformation under high pressure. It is also used when its dielectric properties are needed. It is also resistant to the environment with oxygen and ozone. Passes gases well.

What do the acronyms VMQ and MVQ stand for?

Silicone rubbers (trade name: silicone rubber) are divided into two types.

MVQ rubbers, the chemical name of which is: poly (methyl-vinyl silicone rubber), also known under the abbreviation VMGI, and VMQ rubber, chemically: poly (methylsiloxane) with vinyl groups (vinyl-methyl-silicone).
These rubbers are characterized by very high flexibility and compressibility, which they retain even at high temperatures. The same can be said about their resistance to the action of:

  • turning,
  • crushing,
  • break.

A very important feature from the point of view of processes under changing temperature conditions is resistance to oxidation. This feature also applies to periods when the material is subjected to long-term use. The working ranges in which the material is stable are -60 to 180 degrees Celsius in the plus. Periodically, the material can work at a temperature of 250 degrees Celsius.

This rubber is resistant to specific types of radiation. It is infrared and ultraviolet radiation.

In the work accompanied by the action of steam, no signs of deterioration were observed. The food industry also values these silicones for their physiological harmlessness. This material has therefore been approved for the production of articles in contact with food. this possibility has been legally regulated by the requirements of the European Union. The rubber also has a smooth, hygienic surface. The material also remains intact when exposed to many chemicals.

Silicone rubber is also known as:

  • Silicone VMQ Silastic
  • Silicone
  • Wacker – Silkonkautschuk
  • Silastomer

Red silicone rubber

Silicone is valued for its many properties. It has many more advantages than classic elastomers, thanks to which its use is deeply justified in the food and pharmaceutical industries and wherever cleanliness is required in industrial processes.

Silicone – Temperature range

The technical range of safe use of this silicone is the following temperatures: -60 to +180 degrees Celsius, periodically at 250 degrees Celsius. Red silicone rubber is a special type made of technical silicone rubber, the special use of which is rolled plates. The plates can be solid or porous. This type of rubber is also used in the production of hoses, cords and profiled seals. In the chemical, construction, agricultural and automotive industries, red silicone rubber is used for the production of technical seals.

Rubber is perfect for changing temperature conditions, i.e. -45 to + 250degrees Celsius. Some workplaces even show good resistance at work up to +300 degrees Celsius. Red rubber sheets can be produced in factory rolls with a height of 1200 mm, on customer’s request they can be of various lengths, but not less than 1 m.

Transparent silicone rubber

It is a universal and flexible material. It is valued for the works that take place in unfavorable and extreme temperature conditions. It is a chemically inert and strong polymer. Transparent silicone rubber is ozone and oxidation resistant. It behaves well when exposed to ultraviolet and infrared rays, corona and ionizing discharges. It behaves constantly against moisture, stresses and long-term storage and use. Their thermal resistance is between +60 and even 250 degrees Celsius. There is a growing trend in the use of transparent silicone rubber products in the world.

Transparent rubbers are readily used in the food industry, especially in cold stores and dryers. Industry also uses them because of their flexibility. Such plates must be certified by the PZH (Polish Institute of Hygiene) and meet the standards of the American FDA (Food and Drug Administration). Good colorless silicone rubber should be made in accordance with the ISO 9001: 2009 Quality Management System, according to the latest technologies. This is a guarantee of long use and meeting customer expectations.

Transparent silicone rubber can be produced according to the customer’s special order. Cut on modern plotters, it allows you to maintain the excellent quality of rubber and the shape specified in the order. Rubber remains transparent, but above a certain thickness it may turn milky.

Colorless silicone is used in industries such as food, pharmaceutical, wine, distillery and electronics.

VMQ material – application

Silicone rubber, known simply as “silicone”, is a very resistant type of rubber. The materials produced on its basis are resistant to air, oxygen, water up to 100 degrees Celsius, the action of alcohols, greases and petroleum oils. It is also resistant to hydraulic fluids (which contain glycols). The silicone insulates the current. In the food industry, an important feature is also the non-transfer of smell and taste. It is also fireproof, but the most common use is in contact with foodstuffs.

VMQ silicone is usually used as a static seal. There is a large selection of colors on the market:

  • red
  • white
  • transparent

Food Grade – Silicone and FDA certified for Pharmacy and Foodstuff

Many people, especially in Poland, do not realize that materials that come into contact with food should be certified for this. This is also the case with rubber articles intended for contact with food. Such a rubber mixture is Silikon.

FDA certification for silicone rubber

The FDA certificate (as stated at https://www.fda.gov/) is a Food and Drug Administration certificate confirming the ability of a rubber material to come into contact with food.

A very restrictive standard due to its suitability for use with drinking water and physical contact with the skin.

Silicone rubber for seals

Due to its properties, silicone has been widely used in seals and the production of seals. It is a flexible material, resistant to hot air, ozone and radiation. Seals and insulates even in extreme temperature conditions. Unfortunately, this material is subject to wear and therefore the seals must be static. The material may also break. Silicone rubber gaskets work well wherever hygiene is important. Therefore, they are readily used in the medical and food industry – they do not absorb the taste and smell of the environment.

The rubbers that make up silicone gaskets are very flexible, they isolate electricity well and are resistant to oxygen, ozone and UVA and UVB radiation. They are resistant to biological attacks, including fungal attacks. They are used in the food industry.

However, it is definitely not recommended to use these seals in the case of dynamic operation, where there is a risk of the material becoming old or torn off. The silicone gaskets are also permeable to gases. It also shows low resistance to:

  • concentrated acids and bases,
  • esters and ethers,
  • aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons,
  • water vapor at a temperature greater than 100 degrees Celsius.

Silicone O-rings – Colors

O-rings and silicone gaskets can come in many colors. The basic color of silicone O-rings is red, white or banners, i.e. transparent.
